I'm on my final year of Computer Character Animation course and it is time for my final year project. Hooray!
I am going to produce a 3D animated bus waiting scene which consists of multiple characters, varying in appearances and personalities. However, this is not an ordinary bus stop but a strange one where bizarre things can happen. Every characters has his or her own story and what would happen if they’d meet each other at the bus stop?
This project will be a short animated comedy with a little bit of lip sync animation.
Rationale and Motivation
One of my main goals in this project is to create a strong portfolio which is appropriate to apply for jobs and to showcase my skills. In this project, I decided to focus more on 3D character animation as I want to further develop my animation skills as well as my storytelling skills.
I am proposing a bus waiting scene as I believe it could relate to a wide audience. ‘The first 10 seconds need to be the best as it may be the only 10 seconds the recruiters watch.’, I was told by tutors and people in the industry. To make my scene stand out, I want to add more creativity and fun into my scene. I always enjoy observing people and figuring out who they are and their stories when I am waiting for my bus. Inspired by the bus stop scene in ‘My Neighbour Totoro’, an idea came to my mind, ‘What if I came to a bus stop where things happen beyond my imagination ? ’
In this project, instead of focusing on one or two characters, I chose to animate multiple characters in my scene as I want try something new, complex and also to challenge myself.
